How to declutter emotionally

How to declutter emotionally

We’ve reached that time of the year again where Christmas is soon upon us and we’ll be saying goodbye to another year.

While this can be a very joyful and happy time, it can also be a stressful and even sad time for some. The ending of the year often stirs up emotions when we look back at all that has happened, both the good and the bad.

Maybe you’ve experienced some real hardships and challenges this year, or even some disappointments. It can be easy to filter what the next year will be like through the lens of the hurts and disappointments we experienced in the last.

The enemy is quick to stir up the lies that ‘It’s always going to be this way for you’, and,  ‘Next year won’t be any different’, but this is where we need to ask ourselves the hard question of what do we really believe about God and what He has for us?

If we’re not honest with God about where we’re at, we’re likely to stay in that place. Being honest and transparent with our heavenly Father is how we can declutter emotionally, and bring back stability.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

3 John 1:3 (NKJV)

Whatever the enemy stole from you this year, God wants to restore to you and more. He wants you to prosper not only physically but emotionally. He wants to do exceedingly above more than you could ever ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). But any change on the outside always starts with a change on the inside. It’s ‘as your soul prospers…’ What do you really believe in your heart?

We invite you to meditate on some of the verses below and spend time with God being honest about what you’re believing for this next year. It’s a safe place to declutter emotionally and hand over any hurts and disappointments you’ve been carrying.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV)

For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP)

Let all that I am praise the Lord;

    with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

Let all that I am praise the Lord;

    may I never forget the good things he does for me.

He forgives all my sins

    and heals all my diseases.

He redeems me from death

    and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

He fills my life with good things.

    My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Psalm 103:1-5 (NLT)
