When you’ve been in the shacks and on the rubbish heaps in the Philippines yourself, it makes you glad to have the chance to support those in desperate need.

Esther took me to the Phillippines when she was leading a mission team of volunteers distributing food parcels, children’s school supplies and other aid, as well as preaching and praying for people.  The poverty and deprivation in many places there turns your heart over as does the spiritual need and hunger, and it was an experience I’ll never forget.

Of course, there are many places in the world where the need is great but it makes a huge difference to see it for yourself, meet the people involved and experience their circumstances, especially the children.  When you’ve been in the shacks and on the rubbish heaps yourself it makes you glad to have the chance to support those in desperate need, and to enable such underprivileged children to have the opportunity of an education through sponsorship is probably the best way to help them out of poverty – and doing it through reliable and caring local churches gives them that all-important spiritual covering too.
